Can my child play with their buddy or sibling?
We love to honor buddy/sibling requests, however there is a Capitol Area Youth Soccer Association (CAYSA) rule we must follow. We cannot roster players to a team below their birth year(except for very specific, usually medical reasons). For example, if Judah is born in 2014 (U9) and Micah is born in 2013 (U10), we cannot roster Micah to Judah’s team – even if they are in the same grade at school. We roster according to birth year.
We are allowed to play a player up (though we prefer not to). So per the example above, we could roster Judah to Micah’s team. However, we must have parent consent and a conversation about skill level. We give priority to sibling requests to play up. We do not roster players more than one level up without board approval.
When will I know who my player’s coach is and what team they are on?
We’re so glad you asked! This gives us an opportunity to ask you to volunteer! But, Tracy, (you might say) I never played soccer, I can’t coach! You can! And I know this because I coached last season, and I have never played soccer either! We provide resources and an age level commissioner to help you through the process.
But here’s the answer – you will know who your player’s coach is and what team they are on as soon as we have enough volunteer coaches to accommodate the number of players registered. The faster parents/commuinity members/relatives volunteer to coach, the faster we can assign coaches and contact players about practice.
When are where are games? When will we get our game schedule?
Games will begin September 17th for our 2017-2018 players. Games will begin September 24th for players 2016 and older. All games for 2013-2018 are played at 5 Mile Dam Soccer Complex. 2011-2012 Rec players will have some games at the Hays fields in Buda. Players 2010 and older are travel teams – for more information about travel teams, please contact the 2010 and older registrar, mclapper@surgesoccertx.org.
Game schedules can be set once all teams are rostered and have coaches. See how important our volunteer coaches are?
